Situated in the centre of Palma, in small street just next to the Gran Hotel (an old hotel now refurbished in to an Art Galley and coffee place), La Casa Gallega was one of those "must visit" in Palma during many many years. Next to the entrance and the bright neon with its name you can still see the tank with fresh fish where people used to choose its meal.
Unfortunately for everybody, and that includes myself, now La Casa Gallega has become bored and quality is more bad than good. So forget that many mallorcan guides advising to go there: they most probably have not visited this restaurant for a really long long time.
However, this restaurant has to separates ambient and one of these is still enjoyable. While I will not give a penny for eating at the upstairs area, where the restaurant is, having some quick tapas in the ground floor area and a glass of Albariño (a great Galician variety of white wine) is great. It will not cost you too much money and is a good place to stop and try the Galician octopus (boiled octopus with paprika and strong sea salt), grilled navajas (seafood knives) or oysters.
So you are warned: good for a quick "tapas" when around the centre, nothing to do here but if you look for a good meal.
