Palma Festivities: Sant Sebastia 2006

January the 20th is the day of Sant Sebastia, Palma de Mallorca patron saint and time to celebrate Palma's local festivities.

During the days around that date, Palma de Mallorca (majorca) its inhabitants celebrates its local festivities with music concerts, fireworks spectacles and street entertainment. This year if Palma is lucky, weather is going to continue being good enough as now and the city will get plenty of live.

While the celebrations began on the 14th with Sant Antoni and lasts until the 29thof January with the "Correfocs" (running demons and fireworks), the most of the fun is on the 19th and the 20th.

Sant Sebastia Advertisament Poster 2006On the first and from 22:00 the major city squares such as the Plaza de España or the Plaza Juan Carlos I will be home to many concerts. This years the music and entertainment will come from the hands of many spanish muscians and as follows:

Sant Sebastia Fireworks at Palma de MallorcaOn the 20th comes a major fireworks spectacle, called "AiguaFoc" (water fire), which consist on 30 minutes of fireworks all along Palma's Bay. The names is due to the fact that some of the fireworks come from inside the sea. This spectacle begins at 20:30 on the 20thand more 200.000 people will be at the Paseo Maritimo (coming also from the inland villages) to watch this marvellous fireworks show.

Keep in mind that from early in the afternoon the Paseo Maritimo will remain closed due to security reasons, as there will be to that much people that traffic will be impossible to handle.

If you are now around Palma you have much to do now, but don't forget the above if you don't to feel like miss you something during your holidays.
