Palma Festivities: Correfoc

24/01/06

The Correfoc celebration event, included in Palma's Sant Sebastia events, is celebrated every year around the 29th January.

The Correfoc consist in a spectacle of demons with loads of fireworks running along the streets and supposedly scaring people with their games. You are allowed to go into the game and play with them, but you must comply some basic safety rules. Advise that this is more than important in order to the party not to be a tragedy. Fireworks running demons and dragons are funny and you are encouraged to participate on the "fiesta", but being responsible.

From 20:00 and along Palma's shopping area, Jaume III and the Paseo del Born, the Correfoc will be celebrated with the presence of many groups from all along the island. This includes, among others, the Albopàs Demons of Sa Pobla, the Sant Joan demons, the ones from Alaro and the "Faktoria de Por" (fear factory) from Santa María.

Basic safety rules for the Correfoc:

  • Wearing cotton clothes wit long closed neck and long sleeve
  • Have a small scarf or similar around the neck
  • Comfortable shoes, better if sportive ones like trainers or the like
  • Having a hat or cup in your head is a must
  • Taps in your ears
  • Never ever trough water or similar to the demons or dragons
  • Children can not be on the first line of the spectacle
  • You can dance with them, but force in anyway. Do not hold the demons

Your are the only one and solely responsible of your safety. HAVE FUN!
