What should they charge you?
- Well, first of all, there's something in Spain which is called "bajada de bandera".
- "Bajada de bandera" is the usual expression for switching off the green light, to indicate they are no longer free. When you stop a taxi, there's a fixed amount you should pay just for getting in: 1.80 Euro during the day and 3.60 during the night, weekends and bank holidays.
- OK, and what's the charge for kilometre?
- Every kilometre is charged at 0.61 Euro (0.91 when Fare 2). But if you are stopped at the traffic lights and see the meter going up, don't by surprised (please see below)
- Do they charge when waiting?
- Yes, they do. Every hour is charged at 15.25 Euro (16.55 for Fare 1). But keep in mind that this also works when they wait at any traffic lights or when stopped in the middle of the way by a traffic clogging. That's normal, and the meter is adjusted by laws so you do not get charged twice, by both kilometres and time.
- Are there any extra charges I should know?
- Yes, actually there are many and good if you know them you there is no misunderstanding with you and the taxi driver. These are indicated at the end of the page, but basically there extra fees if you: carry luggage, call the taxi by the phone, take the taxi at the airport, port, or go to some special places such as the Bellver Castle. Baby trolleys can't be counted as luggage, they can not charge you for this.
- Do they have fixed fares for long distance destinations such as Pollensa, Alcudia or Cala d'Or?
- No, they do not. There are some approximate taxi fares for transportation in Mallorca that can be used as an indicator but that are not contractual. You can try to have a fixed rate from the taxi driver, but chances you have they only accept if you paying more than you should.
- When I arrived my final destination, the driver pushed some buttons and the meter went up some euros? What happened?
- Most likely he pushed these buttons to include extras like luggage. Maybe they should do that when starting but many don't do it.
