So you have your new (or old) handy phone and wonder if it will work in the island? Well, be sure it will.

GSM and other international networks are working on the island. However, good coverage depends on where you are.

Before coming, be sure to check your company that the roaming service its active so can receive or do calls. And after that, do not hesitate to ask them about any fee or charge that could be applied when using that service. Sometimes a few calls can suppose a pretty good amount on your monthly bill, so asking it is a good idea.

Also, inform yourself about if there is any difference when doing calls depending on the network you are using. There are several companies working in Spain:

• Movistar
• Vodafone
• Amena

Most probably some of the above listed sound quite familiar to you. So now lets go with the tip: usually mobile network selection is automatically configured by your phone depending on good coverage; if money matter to you, ask your company if there is any friendly one on the above listed, so you can pre-configure your handy to choose it at first. That way, fares will be lower when calling.

For your safety, avoid leaving your phone unattended, as is easy to forget it or worst, be stolen.

And if you can, do a security copy of any important number you carry inside it. You can per example just get this old one you have in a box and transfer all the numbers from your SIM card to its phone memory. It will not take more than a few minutes. Of course, this is also a good tip to do on monthly basis on your regular life.
