Before 1960 Santa Ponsa (many spelled Santa Ponca or Santa Ponça -the last is the mallorcan way-) was just a small village, but with the tourist boom all changed and now is one the most famous family tourist resorts in Mallorca and home to many of the Brits who move their residence to Majorca.
Located at roughly 20-25 minutes driving from Palma's airport (20km west of Palma de Majorca) it can be easily reached by taxi or bus, which leave every 35 minutes throughout the day from Palma to Santa Ponsa.
The resort is frequented not only by british as it happens in Magaluf, but also by many Irish and Scottish visitors, and many Irish bars are open during the summer in the resort. The resort, atmosphere and the hotels are mainly family friendly, as it is the entertainment.
The main area of Santa Ponsa is the sandy beach and the "paseo" along the coast, where the most of the hotels and apartments are located. The beach is separated from the road "paseo" by pinetrees offering pleasant shadow during the hottest hours, 12:00 to 16:00, when you must take care of not being exposed to much time to the sun (if you do, there is a first aid service next to tourist oficce, don't think it twice).
Sunbeds, parasols and pedalos are available to hire at the beach. For the first ones, just get one and someone will come to you in a short time to get the money. Keep ticket as a prove you have already paid, just in case. A Red Cross safeguard is also there from about 10:00 to 18:00.

On the other side, there are also many hotels offering all inclusive holidays in Majorca. There are many tour operators and travel agencies offering these and the best is to check with your preferred one. A rule of thumb: you get what you paid for.
What to do in Santa Ponsa:
There are many things to do around the resort, not only "beaching". Among the nightlife, which is mainly hotel and british bars based (for discos and crazy nightlife you can visit Magaluf), there are many children friendly things to do.
You can visit the dolphin show in Marineland, go to the Pirates Adventure Show, see the underwater scenario with the nemo submarine, visit the aquatic park at the Western Park or take any of the organized boat trips.
Golf lovers have the Santa Ponsa Golf Club just in the outskirts, one of the best golf courses to be found.
Santa Ponsa is, definitely, the perfect holiday resort in Mallorca to spent a week or two with your family.
