Portixol Hotel

The Portixol Hotel was the first of the design hotel opened in Mallorca and a trend followed by most of the new hotels now built of refurbished in this city.

This small jewel is situated in the now trendy (once a fishers neighbourhood) area of the same name, just at the end of Palma Paseo Maritimo (Palma de Mallorca way along the sea), this hotel is has only 24 rooms, 18 doubles and 6 singles.

Rooms are cleanly designed by the owners, Mikael and Johanna Landstrom, who take of every details in this place to ensure its done to perfection and keeping a marine style while design. The rooms are comfy and clean and equipped with white king size beds. The difference on them is made mainly by its view and if they have a terrace or not. Therefore you will find the called so Port View or Mediterranean rooms, with our with out terrace, as well as the Atico, a penthouse on the top floor with a really big terrace which overlooks Palma's bay and harbour.

Its restaurant is considered one the best in Palma and offers Mediterranean and International cuisine by the hand of experienced chefs. A must: to have a Club sandwich on its terrace and cocktail bar by the hands of Eduardo, the head bartender.

The pool is great, somewhat art deco and has the sun shining on it during nearly all day. Among this, facilities such a the beauty area, the sauna and the gym make you feel so good that probably you will not leave the hotel for many times.

Some tips for these visiting the Portixol:

• Book in advance, they use to get quite busy many time in advance.
• Do book also with time for the restaurant if you want to ensure a table.
• If you do like spacious room, go for the Mediterranean Views ones, with or with out terrace. They are even bigger than the Atico, which is the most expensive one.
• The hotel is children friendly (although do not use to be so many), so do not hesitate to ask for baby cots or other thing such a baby listener

Finally, and this has to be said, one of the things that makes the Portixol that good, is it staff: they are happy to help you with smile and no matter what you ask, you will be welcome and helped at any time.
