El Garito

Garito Café, more known as “El Garito”, is situated in the Darsena of Ca’n Barbara, a small harbour in the sea front of Palma, not far away to the Club de Mar and next to Pacha disco.

El Garito was for many years Palma’s meeting point and chatting place for writers, all kind of local artist and bohemian people (the Nobel Camilo José Cela used to go there, and in fact one of the walls next to the bar desk still holds a dedicated and signed photo).

However, with the time it became a non profitable myth and the family who used to run it decided to pass it on the hands of Nacho Velasco, a local Dj and entrepreneur. That was seven years ago, in 1998, and now and on his hands El Garito has become one of Palma’s trendiest places, visited by both local and foreign people and internationally known.

Nicely refurbished, the legendary El Garito keeps its retro character from the Spanish 60’s and 70’s as it was as the beginning. The walls are decorated with old Spanish ads and mirrors giving it a feeling somewhat a little bit art deco.

Two floors with sofas and chairs to seat, a bars desk and small dance floor make the inside area the perfect place to chat during the early afternoon or to have a drink and enjoy during the night.

The terrace, surrounded the by Can Barbara harbour, plenty of small boats, is a nice spot where to stop when the summer gets too warm. Good sandwiches, quick snacks and cocktails are available on both areas.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are the best days to go there, but keep in mind that it will be quite packed from 01:00 am. Many international Dj’s have been playing at the Garito during years. They do organize some special nights Deejays from all around Europe. During the week it is be better for those looking for a less clubber ambient. To get there just turn right after Pacha Disco on Palma’s Paseo Marítimo (the main road by the sea) and it is the first bar you find.
