Started in 1306 by Jaume II the king, the Sineu Market is celebrated weekly every Wednesday in the Sineu town’s main square and is one of the oldest and most interesting Mallorca markets .
Sineu and its locals, as in other towns in the Pla de Mallorca area, were traditionally dedicated agriculture and animal farming. But while originally the market was a point of trade and exchange now is more a tourist attraction, but still the perfect place to find a large choice of Mallorca hand made arts, pottery, clothes, leather goods as shoes and artisan products.
The Sineu Market starts every Wednesday at 08:00 in the church square (formerly called Plaça del Fossar) and lasts during all the morning. However, it is advisable to be there as early as possible as it gets really crowdie and packed. Many locals from Palma and the towns around use to do a break in the morning, if they can, and visit the Sineu market, to finish later having lunch on any of the Cellers (mallorcan restaurants) in the village serving quality Mallorca typical dishes.
During the market the bars in the town fill with people having late breakfast and tasting the local products and cuisine, such a as the “frit mallorquí” (pork liver, red pepper, potatoes and other vegetables mixede and fried).
To get there: you can either take the train from Palma de Mallorca(starting at Plaza de España) or rent a car a do the trip by yourself.
