Family Holidays in Mallorca - How to spend time with your kids

Undoubtedly one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. With its reputation for wild parties and package holidays tailored for younger tourists, many don’t realize that Mallorca is also an excellent destination for kids and family holidays.

The quieter resorts in Mallorca include Puerto Pollensa and Cala d'Or , with their uncrowded beaches. Here kids can build sand castles and play with buckets and spades while parents relax on the beach.

For some more action packed fun in the sun, families can head to the resorts of El Arenal, Alcudia and Magalluf - these all boast enormous waterparks. Kids can also go go-karting in Magalluf, or enjoy a family horse-riding trip to see the island from Alcudia.

Here is our pick of kid-friendly attractions in and around Mallorca:

Marineland , in Costa d'en Blanes, is a must for families travelling in Mallorca. Attractions include dolphin and sea lion shows, Europe's largest collection of sharks, a parrot circus, aquariums, crocodiles and snakes.

Aqualand is another place, not to be missed by families on holiday in Mallorca. Children of all ages and parents alike will have a great time splashing in the pools, riding the slides, floating on tubes or jumping in the wave pools. Older kids can enjoy rides like the Kamikaze, Harakiri, Grand Canyon, Anaconda and the Black Hole, while the younger ones can enjoy splashing in the shallower waters of the Mini Park and Polynesia.

Palma Nova Golf Fantasia is a great attraction for children of all ages as well as adults. It has three mini-golf courses, all set amid waterfalls, caves, lakes and tropical gardens, brimming with animal life. It even has a 19th-hole snack bar and a games area with coin operated arcade games for kids to enjoy when they feel they've played enough mini-golf.

For a bit of culture and beauty, or if you simply want kids to enjoy a bit of nature, there is also Castell d'Alaro, which is Mallorca's most popular hiking trail. It stretches from the town of Alaro to a ruined 15th century castle and hilltop chapel, offering breathtaking views over the island and sea.

Another different yet fun adventure for the kids is to take them for a ride on the Sóller-Palma railway to enjoy the incredible views of the coastline.

If the kids have had enough sun or perhaps it’s raining outside, many of the hotels feature kids clubs, or children's indoor playgrounds. Acuario de Mallorca in Porto Cristo.
